Compared to most of the stallions who have been discussed on the list,
Fløtren is just a "kid" and has to "prove" himself in North America with
quality offspring. But I'll tell you about him anyway, since it isn't
often that a 2nd Premium stallion is imported. His sire is Hertug, 3 Pr.,
who was licensed to breed in Norway then purchased by Denmark, Hertug is
by Reiulf, 2nd Pr., (who also sired Lun Ramstad, 3 Pr. who was imported by
Phil Pritchard and tragically died from complications of colic.) Fløtren's
dam is Seira, 1 Pr. who is the fifth in a line of 1 Pr. mares. (Seira 1
pr., out of Sonja 1 pr. 1 avk.pr, out of Rita 1 pr. 1 avk pr. out of Dua 1
Pr. 1 avk. pr, out of Dokka 1 Pr.) We were told that Fløtren was the only
licensed stallion in Norway to have such a strong dam line. When tested as
a five year old, he scored the highest of the stallions tested in
performance, and had 40 points for conformation. He was placed 2nd in
overall quality in 1998. He has sired about 45 foals in Norway, and we
will see many of them when we go in the spring. He stands just over 14
hands with an 8" cannon bone, is a very dark dun with good striping, has a
refined head with small ears, small muzzle, and strong jaw, good length of
neck with nice placement, a medium length back with strong hip line, very
good feet with strong walls and depth of sole. His temperament is
excellent ~ very people oriented.
